I give up.

[link] Here is an explanation.

Have fun with your bigotry, dA.

EDIT: There is now an "Other" option on the dropdown box, but the field is now titled "Sex" rather than "Gender". As my sex is much less relevant to my art than my gender (which is still not very relevant), this doesn't actually help.

EDIT 2: If you have a problem with how I identify my gender, go play somewhere else. I've already explained myself extensively in my Dreamwidth post; if you still don't understand after all of that, you're too stupid for me to bother with.

EDIT 3: I have decided I probably will post art to deviantART, but only art related to gender identification and how deviantART fails. If they don't like it, I'm sure they'll let me know.

I really admire you, i am also comfused by all this stuff on facebook and other social networks and since i made new DA account same here... as you've said in your conversation with DA stuff member, it's not like we dont want to choose, it's that we cant. i never felt much of my gender and i never will, i just feel it's a body and i must deal with it(not that i want to change become different gender or keep that.. i just dont want to choose any option.. id be happier if i could have 2 bodies and switch between them hah), but i hate when people point it out, since i feel like what type of genitals i or you or else have isnt that important - sex isnt worse, clothes still fit, art is still art. hate the bounds. hate when people judge and try to make everyone around play by their rules. like if you have penis you are allowed to wear skirt only if you from scotland lol
i never learned to act like my "gender/sex" and i never understood the importance of some stuff that genders must do...(and it made me suffer a lot cose elder probably thought i knew how to be my gender since i was born. and i didnt have a clue!! had a lot of embarrasing moments cose of that...) well, i support you. a lot.
good to know i am not alone with that problem cose i often tend to feel a one weirdo around :P(in real life)

thats funny to me how people comment to you with questions like "i dont understand", "whats the point", " is it important"... people who dont understand will not, so i personally dont understand how people can choose to be a boy or a girl, a good or evil. i hardly see sides cose ive been both always in every question and problem i faced...

anyway, it is nice to know that people at least hear more about such "weird" to them and new things, little by little "misfits" get freedom.

*after reading some more comments i get angry how people think it's a joke and that it's a try to get some attention.
People, stop being so f*cking stupid\rude\blind! not everyone sees the world like you, it is not wrong, it is DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW so dont be so rude because there is someone who doesnt act like he/she "supposed to".

Like you, I have to be offended at this whole situation. Why on earth would a website promote "Spirit Day" , which you know gives you +points in the eyes of supporters (especially the passer-bys like media coverage), when they can't even see their own oppressive practices? Gawd, I mean it should only be a little thing to change it (or not go in that direction in the first place!!) but the admins of DA refuse to change their tune, or acknowledge it's plain awful. It's one thing to do the deed, it's another thing to ignore that you did and promote a clean image to outsiders (and uninformed DA users).

And those who don't see why this would be offensive are too cushy in their ethnocentric, privileged high chair to even care why anyone who doesn't belong in the neatly tix box would feel left out in anyway.

I mean, I know that I've been included by my being able to fit into one option or another, but I wish others can see why it's unacceptable too. Because it, at the very least (and very significantly) perpetuates prejudice and oppression.

I do not understand how it is so difficult for people to understand that gender is the state of mind and the sex is the genetics. It seems simple to me. I love how people are accusing you of being a “hermaphrodite” (ignorant word, I know) because you want to use an ambiguous gender term. What is wrong with being gender queer or God-Forbid, proud of the fact you are M2F or F2M?

You are very brave. Good for you fighting the good fight. I need to figure out what I can do to help as a biological woman. I may be bisexual, but I am still learning about Trans-Issues. I support equality amongst ALL genders and as a feminist nothing pisses me off more than being pigeonholed because I have a vagina. -______-

I think you should stay on deviantART to fight. I would make a group to garner support if I were you. See if the total of people does something.

You have all my support. :handshake:
It's a shame how the greed of deviantART is hiding behind a ridiculous technical aspect. Limiting the gender option is only a marketing strategy to fit the advices banners to the consumers.
Are this an Artists communtity site, or is an online plushies-llama-keychains-Fella-T-Shirts shop WITH a sharing pictures service added?
We are his fucking artworks providers! We deserve more respect, damnit!

Wow. What a pathetic, self-righteous attention-whore, getting incensed because someone doesn't immediately kowtow to their demands for recognition and spewing her invective because of those DAMN bigots who don't recognise some nebulous 'other' gender. Fuck her: if she wants to know what to put in the 'gender' box she can check her DNA for a fucking Y chromosome. If he has one, he's a guy and if not, she's a girl, and she can stop being such a histrionic bitch.

Very sorry in advance if this offends you, but I am honestly confused by this ever since I read your post on this issue with deviantart. Simply: what exactly is neutrois?

Let me say that I am REALLY confused by WHAT exactly being "neutrois" is. Based on what I found on the interwebs, I know that it means that you are not (or do not consider?) yourself to be either male, female, or intersexed. I've looked all over just about every search engine I could get my hands on about it, but I just keep getting the same answer: "It refers to a gender identity which is also called null-gendered on occasion" or "to not identify with a particular gender." Does this mean that you LITERALLY have no sex or gender? Like, no reproductive/sex organs? Or is it a "gender label" for those who are transgendered? Or am I just way off? I did find a post that says those born with ambiguous genitalia are classified as neutrois, but wouldn't that be intersexed?

Sorry if this offends anyone, I honestly don't/wouldn't mean to. ^^; I'm just seriouslyseriouslyseriously confused about what this is and can't seem to get a straight answer.

~split-complex,

I think this is a really important issue that deserves wider discussion. I think you agree. I work for a newspaper chain in Canada that services 52 daily newspapers across the country, along with another 150 weeklies. Collectively, that's about 6 million readers. I firmly believe that the only way to break down the misconceptions and ignorance is to educate people about what they're doing wrong (kind of what drew me to journalism in the first place). With that in mind, I'd like to write an article about what is happening with DreamWidth, LJ, DevArt and with the limits on social networking in general (I mean, really, if Facebook gets their knickers in a twist about breastfeeding photos, that's indicative of some pretty serious prudishness issues).

If you'd like to chat, email me at william dot wylie at sunmedia dot ca.

Thanks in advance! Who knows, maybe a spotlight will help them see the error of their ways.

I thought some of the staff were extremely rude with you and I do see where you are coming from. Although my sex is female and I don't have a problem saying that I'm female in that respect, my gender identity is agender/non/whatever. Honestly I just think of myself as a person who thinks like a person. I feel like I'm lying when I say that my gender (not my sex) is female. Even though I don't feel like I'm "lying" anymore on dA, I don't appreciate what happened in this situation and what has been happening. And non-cisgender identity is something that many people don't always understand/know about or take seriously, but I'm glad you were brave, voiced your viewpoint, and have in the process been able to enlighten some people.

Slightly off to the side but for anyone who may not understand gender identity, etc. and feels they would like to know more, this sexual education site is really helpful: [link] or this site [link]

Sadly not surprised by the staff behavior. Things haven't changed much since 2007.

I wish people would learn to be more sensitive and accepting of things that are different from what they know and are comfortable with. You have every right to be offended and upset and I am hugely disappointed by the number of people that continue to tell you're whining and throwing a pity-party.
